Golf; Jaidee grinds it out First title on European mainland for veteran Thai

Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee claimed his fifth European Tour victory after a gutsy final round at the ISPS Handa Wales Open.

The 42-year-old former paratrooper led by a shot overnight but was out in 39 as the field struggled to cope with cold and wet conditions at Celtic Manor.
But he moved clear thanks to a run of three straight birdies from the 10th and had a two-shot cushion on the last, a bogey six meaning he won by a shot from Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, South African Richard Sterne, Dane Thomas Bjorn and Dutchman Joost Luiten.
"The conditions were really tough today, they were not like Thailand," Jaidee said. "I was pleased to putt well on the back nine."
Former Ryder Cup star Ross Fisher slipped to a share of sixth place after he was penalised a shot for slow play on the back nine when just one off the lead.
The former world No.27 fell foul of European Tour rules when he took too long over shots at the 11th and 14th holes.
Fisher was also fined £6,000. "I don't think it's justice, but there you go," he said after completing a final round 73.
Fisher shared sixth with Paul McGinley, who was a vice-captain for Europe's 2010 Ryder Cup victory at the venue and shot a six-under 65, the lowest round of the day.
"I have played well all week, but the scores haven't matched it," McGinley said. "Today, I played as well as I have in my life."
